The Latest Kitchen Design Trends For This Season

Summer is well and truly here, and for many of us, it’s the season of barbecues, garden parties and long strolls in the park. However, that doesn’t mean that we can’t get the maximum enjoyment out of our homes while the sun is out and a sense of hope, happiness and optimism pervades in the air. The kitchen is often regarded as the heart of the home. It’s where meals are made and enjoyed, stories are shared and happy memories are made with your family. Whether you’re buying a new house or thinking of carrying out some much-needed renovations, a new kitchen can be the perfect place from which to enjoy the season. And, of course, if you’re hoping to create a summer that’s at the cutting edge of stunning design and technological efficiency, make sure it has some of these must-have kitchen design trends for summer 2019…

Dark stone countertops

For years conventional wisdom has dictated that lighter colours are better suited to countertops. They add an airy effect to your design aesthetic and can add the illusion of space to diminutive kitchens. Glitzy and sparkling dark countertops hit the market hard at the turn of the millennium then almost disappeared from sight. Now they’re back with a vengeance but with a more muted matte finish than their early ‘00s counterparts.

Dark cabinets

If there’s one trend that defines the new kitchens of 2019 it’s dark cabinets. Matte black go beautifully with dark stone countertops and look great all year round. However, going dark need not necessarily mean going black. There are a number of stunning dark matte options to choose from for your cabinets including intense navy blues, slate grays and forest greens.

Statement appliances

Integrated appliances are well and truly back. No longer do we hide our appliances away, we display them in plain sight. What’s more, there are a wide range of aesthetics to choose from. Whether you go for futuristic looking slabs of brushed steel and blinking blue lights or more retro-inspired ovens and SMEG refrigerators, 2019 is the year to let your appliances shine.

Linear lighting

Lighting is an absolutely essential element of kitchen decor. Even a stunning design can be cheapened by the wrong lighting. Although pendant lights have dominated the kitchen lighting market for a long time, these are currently on the way out and linear lighting is very much where it’s at. Linear fixtures give a nice, clean minimalistic design to your lighting and can be given either vintage or contemporary affectations depending on your taste.

Smart appliances

Finally, in an era of technological marvels, make sure your kitchen doesn’t go without this year’s must-have appliances. The Internet of Things continues to play an increasingly vital role in our new appliances, including smart refrigerators that order new items online whenever you’re running low. A steam oven is another essential touch that allows you to cook delicious, healthy food in a fraction of the time and at a fraction of the cost when compared to conventional ovens.

All of the kitchens in our Make Homes properties are finished to the highest of standards and offer a wide range of customisable elements. To learn more about the new builds we currently have for sale, or for more information on the customisation we offer, contact our sales team here.
